Kitchen
The original kitchen was located behind Stranahan House. In the period between 1913-1915 the house was expanded to include an attached kitchen area.  These photos of the antique stove and icebox represent the "Modern" appliances Mr. and Mrs. Stranahan would have used at the time.

Frank's Office
When the house was built in 1901, there was no interior stairway and no walls dividing the rooms. The ground floor was an open area which served as a trading post and general store. In 1905, when the Stranahans converted the building to become their home, Frank used this area on the ground floor as his office. The adding machine and many items on the desk belonged to Mr. Stranahan.

Wash Room
This antique washing machine with a hand-wringer was considered state-of-the-art when Frank and Ivy first occupied the house. Wash water was heated on the wood burning stove and laundry soap was improvised from scraps of hand-made bar soap.Where's the dryer? It's a rope between two trees behind the house! Ivy must have been so pleased when the house was finally updated with electricity and running water.

Parlor
In a time before television and radio, entertaining at the Stranahan House was done alongside the piano or the phonograph. The Stranahan House served as a hub of activity for the growing New River settlement.

Upstairs
When first built in 1901, the upstairs of the Stranahan House was used as a town meeting hall, and the downstairs served as a trading post. Access to the second floor was from an outside staircase on the west side of the house. In 1905, the building was converted into living quarters and rooms were partitioned off. This room served as Frank and Ivy's bedroom and many of Ivy's belongings are still located on the dresser and nightstand.

After Frank's death in 1929, Ivy took in boarders to supplement her income. This room would have been one of three rooms available to travelers.
